Chimoio

General Information

Chimoio is the capital of the Manica Province in Mozambique, and is the fifth-largest city in Mozambique.

Once under Portuguese rule, Chimoio known then as Vila Pery, developed as an agricultural and textiles centre.  The town is situated on the railway line from Beira to Harare, near the Cabeça do Velho rock, and is about 95 km from the Zimbabwean border.

This town is mostly agricultural, subsistence farming.  Chimoio is a major producer of bananas.
