Inhambane

General Information

Inhambane​ is a sleepy but charming town lying in the Inhambane Bay in Southern Mozambique.  It is one of the country's oldest settlements and was a trading post for salve traders in the early 16th century.  

Inhambane is a beautiful area of Mozambique, with unspoilt beaches, coconut palm groves and salt water mangroves.

Activities in Inhambane

• Scuba diving - Giant Manta Rays, Turtles and other marine life are regularly seen.  Tofo is the nearest diving location to Inhambane.
• Portuguese colonial architecture can be seen throughout, which includes the two hundred year old Our Lady of the Conception Catholic Cathedral.
• "Thee Old Mosque" built in 1840.
• The local market for arts and crafts.
• Music plays a big role here with the local chopi xylophones being played around town.

Inhambane has a very successful business sector.  Tourists will find many souvenirs, stalls, shops and local products. The restaurants in the area are all a culinary delight and there is something to suit every taste. Fresh seafood is available in the town and from vendors who will prepare it for you in the street - a delicious local treat.
