Ponta do Ouro

General Information

Ponta do Ouro is a town located in the extreme South of Mozambique, and just North of the border with South Africa.  From other parts in Mozambique, Ponta do Ouro can only be reached by a 4x4 vehicle as there are no tarred roads.  Travelling from Maputo to Ponta takes about 3-4 hours and some of the road is made up of soft sand tracks, therefore a 4x4 vehicle is essential.  The best access to Ponta do Ouro is through the Kosi Bay border post in KwaZulu Natal. 

Accommodation in Ponta do Ouro

There are 3 to 4 modern and comfortable resorts in Ponta on the beach front and surrounding areas, with the other resorts being a bit dated and primitive, although very popular with tourists due to reasonable pricing and excellent location on the beach front.  Please see the accommodation directory for more information.

There are a variety of activities that visitors can occupy themselves with from off-shore diving, deep sea fishing, whale and dolphin watching to walking on the beautiful beaches.  Please see the activities directory for more information on things to do here.

Businesses

Shopping is very limited here, although tourists will find souvenirs, stalls, shops and local products. There is a great variety of walk-in beach bars and restaurants all over Ponta do Ouro.​
